Elvis trailer debuts for new Netflix animated comedy

The King of Rock and Roll is a secret agent as Matthew McConaughey voices Elvis in the animated series from Priscilla Presley.

Elvis sightings continue as Netflix releases the trailer for a new animated original titled Agent: Elvis. This comes after the release of last year’s biopic Elvis from Baz Luhrmann, which had gained acclaim and award nominations, especially for the film’s star, Austin Butler, who hasn’t been able to shake the Elvis voice totally as of yet. This new satirical series is co-created by John Eddie and Elvis’ widow, Priscilla Presley. You can take a look at all the rock’n’roll mayhem in the trailer above.

The official Netflix synopsis reads,
“Elvis Presley trades in his jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves – all while holding down his day job as the King Of Rock And Roll. Elvis Presley’s iconic look is being brought into animation with the help of Academy Award® nominee Robert Valley and Agent Elvis’ wardrobe is designed by legendary fashion designer John Varvatos. The series is the first adult animated project from Sony Pictures Animation, the studio behind Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and is produced in partnership with Authentic Brands Group and Titmouse.”

Elvis is voiced by Matthew McConaughey, as a “Global superstar by day, ass-kicking vigilante by night who eventually joins the secret agency ‘TCB’ as Agent Elvis.” The executive producers include the co-creators, Priscilla Presley and John Eddie. The showrunning and writing duties fall on Mike Arnold who is also listed as an executive producer. John Eddie pulls multiple duties also as a writer and a co-showrunner. The other executive producers include Kevin Noel, Matthew McConaughey, Chris Prynoski, Shannon Prynoski, Antonio Canobbio, Ben Kalina, Jamie Salter, Corey Salter, and Marc Rosen. With Fletcher Moules co-executive producing.

As interest is re-sparking on the Elvis brand, this is a continued subversive turn as not only is Priscilla involved, but the plot is depicted in such an over-the-top manner. The same could be said for the Baz Luhrmann movie as the director brought his signature stylization to the topic. The series looks to combine elements of shows like Johnny Bravo and Archer and puts the Viva Las Vegas spin on it with Elvis as a double-life leading secret agent.

Agent: Elvis will be available on Netflix in March.
